Our Story

SevaTruck Foundation was founded on the belief that no child should go hungry—and that tackling food insecurity is not just a compassionate act, but a collective duty. Established in 2016 by Sonny and Seema Kakar, SevaTruck embodies the spirit of Seva, or selfless service, with a steadfast commitment to supporting children and families throughout the DMV region.

This is our story – a story of food, faith, and fierce dedication to our youth.

One meal, one child, one act of Seva at a time.

MEALS THAT MOVE

An orange food truck with the words "Inspired to Serve" on its side, parked on a dark surface.
Our fleet of fully licensed, commercial-grade food trucks allows us to take our mission directly into communities – into the very streets, schools, and centers where the need is most acute.
Unlike stationary models that rely on families to find access, our trucks eliminate transportation hurdles and bring healthy, freshly prepared vegetarian meals straight to the children who need them.
This approach doesn’t just feed – it restores dignity, fosters trust, and builds meaningful relationships within each community we serve.

When schools close for Spring Break, so do the breakfast and lunch programs that so many children rely on every day.

For many families, this creates a sudden and very real gap.

At SevaTruck, we are grateful that we are able to step in—serving at least one warm, nutritious meal each day during the break. While routines may pause, hunger does not, and neither does our commitment to the community.

These moments are a reminder that access to food security cannot be seasonal. It requires consistency, compassion, and collective effort.

We are deeply thankful to our volunteers, partners, and supporters who make it possible for us to continue showing up—especially when it matters most.

Grateful for the continued support of Anne Lantry from the Lantry Foundation, a longtime champion of our mission, Kevin Vigilante, and Cameron Schaefer for joining us on the ground at Braddock Elementary School yesterday.

Together, we served 200+ warm meals to students and families—making a direct impact where it matters most.

Thank you for showing up, serving with heart, and standing with our community.
