SevaTruck Foundation was founded on the belief that no child should go hungry—and that tackling food insecurity is not just a compassionate act, but a collective duty. Established in 2016 by Sonny and Seema Kakar, SevaTruck embodies the spirit of Seva, or selfless service, with a steadfast commitment to supporting children and families throughout the DMV region.
Our Story
A Mission on Wheels
Where It All Started
This is our story – a story of food, faith, and fierce dedication to our youth.
One meal, one child, one act of Seva at a time.
We believe that hunger and learning loss are not separate challenges – they are interwoven barriers that hinder a child’s ability to thrive. At SevaTruck, we confront both simultaneously.
Our mission is threefold:
Combat the growing crisis of food insecurity
Serve Title I schools across Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) metro
Provide after-school resources that support academic success and long-term development

MEALS THAT MOVE
At the core of our work is mobility.
More Than a Meal
Every meal we serve is an investment in a child’s well-being, academic potential, and future.
Our food truck and kitchen produce an average of 500 warm and nutritious vegetarian meals every day, delivered with care and consistency by a devoted team of volunteers and staff. These are more than meals – they’re lifelines. Every meal we serve is an investment in a child’s well-being, academic potential, and future.
We support after-school program by ensuring students are nourished and ready to engage. While programs like homework help, test prep, and mentorship are led by the schools, our meals make it possible for students to participate fully.
By addressing hunger and supporting academic engagement, we help tackle the systemic challenges that contribute to generational poverty. Our goal is to ensure every child not only has access to food but also the opportunity to thrive in school and in life.

Serving the community isn’t just what we do—it’s what we live for.
Today, we had the privilege of serving meals at the Special Mario Day event at the James Lee Center. Moments like these remind us that impact is only possible because of the incredible dedication of our volunteers. Their time, energy, and compassion turn every meal into something more—a gesture of care, dignity, and connection.
Grateful to be part of a community that shows up, serves together, and uplifts one another.

When schools close for Spring Break, so do the breakfast and lunch programs that so many children rely on every day.
For many families, this creates a sudden and very real gap.
At SevaTruck, we are grateful that we are able to step in—serving at least one warm, nutritious meal each day during the break. While routines may pause, hunger does not, and neither does our commitment to the community.
These moments are a reminder that access to food security cannot be seasonal. It requires consistency, compassion, and collective effort.
We are deeply thankful to our volunteers, partners, and supporters who make it possible for us to continue showing up—especially when it matters most.

Yesterday at Braddock Elementary School, we had the pleasure of hosting a wonderful team from Brillient Corporation (https://www.linkedin.com/company/brillient-corporation/).
Their team jumped right in—serving meals, connecting with students, and helping ensure every child received a warm, nutritious meal. It’s always inspiring to see corporate teams step into the community in such a meaningful way.
Partnerships like these are essential to our mission. Corporate teams bring not just extra hands, but energy and care that truly make a difference.
Thank you, Brillient Corporation (https://www.linkedin.com/company/brillient-corporation/), for your support.
If your organization is looking for a meaningful team-building experience, we invite you to join us in the kitchen or at our school sites.

Grateful for the continued support of Anne Lantry from the Lantry Foundation, a longtime champion of our mission, Kevin Vigilante, and Cameron Schaefer for joining us on the ground at Braddock Elementary School yesterday.
Together, we served 200+ warm meals to students and families—making a direct impact where it matters most.
Thank you for showing up, serving with heart, and standing with our community.
